Personal Uniform: a standardized wardrobe cultivated autonomously by the wearer/user. A personal uniform promotes consistency and commitment to ownership of clothing and wear, reducing waste of material, energy and time.
For a period of 7-months I engaged in a process-based exercise that was part disruptive, part critical, part reflective and part performative. I created and wore a Personal Uniform for Daily Wear based on my pre-existing wardrobe consisting of 15 garments.
Concerned and curious about personal waste – both physical and social in relation to the value of material and time – I placed constraints on my own use of clothing to gain perspective on the challenges and opportunities that surround the consumption/ use/ sustainability/ life cycle of garments in present time and rethinking systems for future clothing.
